There’s something powerful about the way Psalm 23 begins: “The Lord is my Shepherd.”
Not a shepherd. Not someone else’s shepherd. Mine.
In those few words, David speaks of a relationship that is both intimate and unbreakable. This isn’t just theology — it’s personal. It’s a reminder that you are not forgotten, not wandering aimlessly, not left to figure life out on your own. You are being led, watched over, and provided for by the One who knows you completely.
The Shepherd Who Leads and Restores
When David wrote these words, he wasn’t surrounded by luxury or ease. He had known danger, betrayal, and wilderness. Yet in every season, he saw the same truth: God takes care of His own.
“He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters.”

What “I Shall Not Want” Really Means
“I shall not want” doesn’t promise that you’ll have everything you desire. It promises something better: that you’ll never lack what God knows you need.

These are the gifts of the Shepherd’s care. They remind us that even when we can’t see the path ahead, the One who leads us already knows the way.
